Sören Ehlers, D.Sc., is a professor for design and analysis of ships and offshore structures and the head of the institute for ship structural design and analysis at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). He is an expert in consequences assessment for accidental events, including ice impact, and further in the field of material modelling for non-linear finite element simulations and small and large-scale experimental research. He has more than 240 publications in the corresponding fields. He is the chairman of the ISSC V.2 on Experimental Methods, a symposium coordinator for the Arctic Technology Symposium at OMAE, a member of the OOAE Executive Committee, the deputy chairmen of the board of the German Association for Marine Technology, the ICSOS conference co-chair and co-founder, an editor for the Ship Technology Research Journal, an associate editor for Marine Structures and a guest editor for Ships and Offshore Structures and a reviewer for several international journals.
