What will establishing a CO2 Transport and Storage industry in Scotland mean for the economy and society?

All-Energy 24, Thursday 16 May, 14:00-15:30

Decarbonising industry clusters will be fundamental to achieving mid-century net zero targets.  In its recently published CCUS vision, the UK Government has committed to establishing a self-sustaining carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) market by 2035. A Scottish CO2 Transport and Storage (T&S) industry linked to the Acorn T&S project could play a vital role in achieving these goals.

This event will present new findings generated by the University of Strathclyde’s Centre for Energy Policy (CEP) as part of the Scotland’s Net Zero Infrastructure programme on the potential economic and societal benefits of establishing a Scottish CO2 T&S industry, both for the Scottish and wider UK economy.  The panel will also explore some of the possible barriers, such as persistent skills and worker shortages, to realising these positive outcomes.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor Karen Turner, Director, CEP
  • Charlie Youngs, Head of Carbon Capture and Storage, Storegga
  • Mark Hughes, Chief Operating Officer, NECCUS
  • Susie Townend, Director, Energy Industries, Scottish Government
  • Dr Bryony Livesey, Director, Industrial Decarbonisation Challenge (Chair)
