Eco Learning Partners
This is an innovative and international partnership project linking Scottish and Chinese primary classrooms to learn about climate action and the climate crisis. Schools over 5000 miles apart, gather digitally for eight weeks to engage with real issues and devise practical solutions. Through a shared block of lessons and four live-link-up sessions, learners get to know their peers - communicating, sharing and learning together to take on one of the biggest issues facing this generation globally.
Discovering China NQ
Discovering China is an innovative project run by SCILT and CISS that aims to support GTCS teachers and their provision of Mandarin in state schools across Scotland. Preference is given to schools who do not have access to a GTCS Mandarin teacher. Online lessons are delivered by one of our GTCS teachers of Mandarin and live streamed into the classroom via Microsoft Teams in Glow. To supplement the live classes, materials are provided for pupils to explore and use to develop all four skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Registration for Discovering China NQ 2024-25 is now open.
Virtual Exchange Teachers
Our virtual teacher programme launched September 2020 in response to the Covid pandemic. The programme is run in conjunction with the eSgoil online learning organisation and in partnership with South West Jiao Tong University, Chengdu, China. The programme consists of an 8 week upper Primary or Secondary BGE course. Amidst the technical glitches that inevitably come with a live online class, we’re delighted to see Scottish pupils able to connect with a native Mandarin speaking teacher on the other side of the world.
Pupil Immersion
Our pupil immersion trip is an annual trip to Beijing and Tianjin each July. Nearly 1000 young people across Scotland have had the opportunity to travel to China with CISS to learn about its unique language and culture. Pupils attend daily language and culture classes and go on a number of excursions, such as the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City. Pupils receive an SQA China Bridge Award accreditation at the end of the trip.
