The University of Strathclyde is committed to transparency and to complying with its responsibilities under data protection legislation. This privacy notice sets out important information regarding how we will use your information and your rights under the legislation. It is important that you read this notice prior to providing your information. The information being collected and used

We will process identifiable information about you when you request CISS to provide you with a service.

Purpose of processing and legal basis

The University uses your personal data for a variety of reasons and processes it where necessary for its legitimate interests including:

  • Communicating with event attendees / competition entrants / project participants
  • Dealing with and responding to requests, enquiries and venue bookings
  • Facilitating the safe and smooth running of any event and providing an acceptable service
  • Event or project reporting and evaluations

When we collect any information about dietary or access requirements we will ask for your consent, as this type of information is classed as special category data.

Who we will share your data with

We will share your personal data with third parties, including external suppliers, where it is necessary to successfully administer any event or project. No data will ever be shared for marketing purposes. When you sign up for a CISS trip to China we will share your details with third parties in order to book travel, to ensure your safety and when necessary for the organisation of any part of the trip.

Retention periods

We will retain your personal information for a maximum of two years, after which point any personal data will be anonymised.

Your Rights

You have the right to access your personal data held by the University.  Please contact dataprotection@strath.ac.uk to exercise this right. If you have any concerns/issues with the way the University has processed your personal data you can contact the Data Protection Officer at dataprotection@strath.ac.uk.  You also have the right to lodge a complaint against the University regarding data protection issues with the Information Commissioner’s Office (https://ico.org.uk/concerns/).
