Clinic Funding Success

University of Strathclyde Mediation Clinic has been successful in a funding bid to SafeDeposits Scotland Trust.  This major grant, worth over £20,000, will fund a new Housing Mediation Project, building on the Clinic’s expertise in court mediation to help landlords, tenants, letting agents and others involved in the housing sector resolve disputes peacefully and with a minimum of delay and cost.  The Trust’s funding will enable the Clinic to employ a part-time development worker and lay the foundations for a centre of excellence in housing dispute resolution.

The Mediation Clinic is hosted by Strathclyde Law School as part of its LLM/MSc in Mediation and Conflict Resolution.  The new Head of the Law School, Professor Alastair Hudson, commented:

This major initiative will build on the Clinic's well-deserved reputation for making real change to the lives of the people of Glasgow. There are few issues more important than housing. This initiative will help people - tenants and landlords - to resolve their problems quickly, cheaply and fairly. It also illustrates the commitment of Strathclyde Law School to its place in the community.

The Dean of Strathclyde’s Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Science, Professor Douglas Brodie, added:

The University rightly prides itself on being a place of useful learning and this project aligns very closely with that founding vision.
