Rodger V Google Settlement Approval

16 September 2026

On the 16 Sept 2026, the Competition Appeal Tribunal approved the £260 million settlement Prof Barry Rodger secured on behalf of UK app developers. This is a historic outcome for thousands of businesses and for the UK's collective action regime.

Barry has dedicated his career to studying how the largest companies affect those that depend on them, so ensuring compensation for affected businesses through a successful settlement to this claim means a great deal. This pay-out should benefit developers of every size, from individuals and start-ups to established companies, who sold apps or digital content through their apps on the Google Play Store.

➡️ The Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) has approved a £260 million settlement for UK app developers.

➡️ It is the largest pay-out for members of a collective action ever approved by the Tribunal.

➡️ Almost two thirds of the settlement is earmarked to compensate several thousand UK businesses for the commissions they paid on Play Store transactions. Eligible developers can register now to be notified when they can claim.

Barry is grateful to the team at Geradin Partners, and to everyone who worked on this claim over the past years, for making this possible.
