Overview
Dive into the wild world of time travel, money, and the future of technology—a family-friendly event organised as part of FOSS!

As part of the Festival of Social Sciences, the University of Strathclyde invites all who wondered what would happen to money, jobs or the cost of living if someone could travel through time. In this playful workshop we use favourite stories (think Back to the Future and more) to explore big questions in a fun, age-friendly way.
Kids will work in small groups on challenges such as: What rules should stop people from getting rich by knowing the future? How might changing history affect prices, savings or fairness? Through games, drawing and short discussions they will invent their own “time travel laws” and think about fairness, responsibility and money.
The 11:30 AM-12:30 PM session will be lively and interactive – no lectures, just creating ideas and imagination. Families will leave with fresh conversations and a sense that law and finance can be exciting.
No kids? No problem - a linked expert roundtable organised by Mirosław M. Sadowski (University of Strathclyde) beginning at 1 PM will bring together Guido Noto La Diega (University of Strathclyde), Amy Thomas (University of Glasgow), and Alexander Simmonds (University of Dundee) who will discuss the changing relationship between law and technology, as our progress speeds up!
Both parts are free of charge and open to the general public, designed to spark curiosity about how society might handle powerful new technologies.
Not able to make it in person? Book a virtual participation ticket and receive instructions on how to join - available for the rountable only.
Interest piqued and want to know more? Check out a recent article on time travel written by two of our participants: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11196-026-10580-0.
See you at GoMA - both events will take place at the learning-creative Studio at the top floor of the Gallery!
We are very grateful to the ESRC for funding which allowed us to organise this event.
