Widening Participation in the Scottish LLB: Examining Barriers to Entry, Progression, and Transition Beyond the Degree
My research looks at widening participation to the study of law (notably the LLB) in Scotland. The research aims to identify and analyse the individual, institutional, and structural barriers that influence the experiences and outcomes of widening participation students in law. Using a mixed methods approach, data will be gathered through surveys and interviews with LLB students and key stakeholders, supplemented by analysis of grade outcomes to examine patterns of inequality in attainment. By amplifying the voices of students and examining the institutional contexts in which they study, this research seeks to inform policy and practice within higher education and the legal sector. Ultimately, it aims to contribute to a more equitable and diverse legal profession in Scotland by improving understanding of the factors that shape the WP journey into and through legal education.
