Professor Kenneth Norrie is Emeritus Professor at Strathclyde Law School, where he taught law for 33 years until his retiral in 2023. Prior to that he taught at Aberdeen and Dundee Law Schools, and he has held visiting professorships at Sydney, Cape Town, Wellington, Regensburg and Vienna. He has published extensively on Scottish family law, including the textbooks Law Relating to Parent and Child and Children’s Hearings in Scotland (now in its fourth edition). He has also written widely on same-sex relationships, medical negligence, and legal history. He was commissioned by the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry to produce a report on the legislative development of child care law in Scotland from the late Victorian period until the present day, and from that work he produced his book A History of Scottish Child Protection Law. He was a member of the Children’s Panel for ten years, and acted as advisor to the Scottish Parliament as it considered the bills that became the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006, the Children and Adoption (Scotland) Act 2007 and the Children’s Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011.
