With our BA (Honours) degree you can choose from subjects in Humanities, Social Sciences and Business, with two of your three subject choices taught by the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences.
The BA degree is a three year course and the Honours degree is normally a four year course. This allows you to try new subjects, develop your own ideas, develop a broad range of knowledge and enhance your employability.

Subject combinations
Single or Joint Honours
English, English and Creative Writing, History, Politics and International Relations and Psychology may be studied to Single or Joint Honours level.
Joint Honours only
Education, French, Spanish, Law, Journalism, Media and Communication and Social Policy are available only as Joint Honours Programmes.
Subjects in other Faculties
Economics, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Mathematics and Hospitality & Tourism Management can also be studied alongside a Humanities and Social Sciences subject.
Our subjects
Education
Develop an understanding of the history, philosophy, psychology and sociology of education.
English
Gain psychological and historical insight through analysing the work of writers, past and present.
English & Creative Writing
Gain a critical understanding of contemporary and historical literature while developing your own creative work.
History
Study the people, societies and events of the past and gain greater perspective on contemporary issues.
Journalism, Media & Communication
Study the theory and practice of journalism, undertake media placements and work in a simulated news environment.
Languages
Work towards fluency in French or Spanish and benefit from language immersion with a year abroad.
Law
Study the law within one of Scotland’s leading providers of legal education, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning.
Politics & International Relations
Study power in theory and practice, the individuals and institutions that govern, and their relationship to those they govern.
Psychology
Study the conditions of human behaviour - how we behave, learn and interact with others.
Social Policy
Study how societies past and present have worked to address problems of human need.
Degree structure
First year
Study three academic subjects in first year, amounting to 120 credits.
Second year
Specialise in two of these subjects.
Third year
Continue with two subjects from Year 2, or focus on one, depending on whether you are thinking about Joint or Single Honours.
Fourth year
Honours year.
Placements
Every one of our flexible BA options gives students the chance to gain valuable industry experience as part of a credit-bearing work placement class in their third or fourth year.
I chose Strathclyde because the bespoke Bachelor of Arts honours programme fit well with my study needs. You can explore a combination of subjects that complement each other. This allowed me to guide my studies in the direction that I wanted.
