Giveaways/ company merchandise

With this event being an in-person fair, organisations are more than welcome to have giveaways/company merchandise on their tables and hand them out to attendees

Exhibitors are allowed to take photographs of their own stands only. You should not take any pictures/videos of your stand or surrounding areas with attendees or other exhibitors present without their permission.

The Organiser may take photographs, videos, or recordings of the Fair and use these for promotional purposes unless you have notified the Organiser in writing prior to the Fair. As this is a public event we cannot be held responsible for any unauthorised photographs taken by the public.

Fair security is important to us and we want to ensure you are prepared should you encounter disruptive behaviour during the event. Please follow the below instructions if you come across the following:

Attendees:

  • using inappropriate language
  • being disruptive, offensive or aggressive
  • protesting

What to do:

Please inform a member of the fair staff immediately. Staff will be throughout the venue or at the enquiries desk (the stand you "sign in" at.)

Signing up to attend, candidates agree that the the Organiser reserves the right to stop attendees from entering and/or ask attendees to leave the In-person Fair if the Organiser, in its sole discretion, determines that their participation or behaviour creates disruption, offense or hinders the Fair or the enjoyment of the Fair content by other attendees.

Security will be present on the day also.

In advance

Wi-Fi access is available throughout the venue free of charge. Full instructions on how to connect to the WI-FI will be provided to you upon arrival at the Fair.

Exhibitors should complete THEIR OWN company Risk assessment for attending events prior to the fair and should have access to this on the day they are exhibiting. We do not supply Risk Assessments to exhibitors as all companies do these differently.

Exhibitors are reminded that they have a responsibility to ensure the safety of everyone involved during the load-in, whilst attending their stands during the event and during the load-out. To this end, it is essential that exhibitors assess and manage any risks to which Careers Service/Platform staff, contractors and members of the public could be exposed.

  • being struck by moving or falling objects (eg, during transportation of materials and equipment to and from car parks to the exhibition hall)
  • security issues that may arise (e.g. protestors, aggravated attendees etc)
  • contact with electricity (eg, from portable appliances, interactive displays, etc)
  • slips, trips and falls (eg, due to trailing cables, boxes of literature, stand exhibits, etc)
  • striking something fixed (eg, due to the positioning of furniture, spotlights, exhibits, literature stands, etc)
  • contact with hot liquids/surfaces or hazardous substances (eg, hot drinks, cleaning materials, etc)

Prior to the opening of the exhibition, Careers Service and SWG3 staff will carry out a brief safety check on exhibitor stands. During this, they may ask to see a copy of the exhibitors' risk assessment, as mentioned above, and to discuss any issues arising.

The safety of exhibitors and the public attending the event is of the highest priority.

Who should you send to the Fair?

  • above all, people who are interested in talking to students
  • ideally, staff who have worked in your organisation for at least a year and know its culture and the opportunities which it can offer
  • if you are recruiting for technical functions, there should be at least one person in your team who can speak to students about technical work. It is counter-productive if you cannot provide that information

What should representatives know?

  • as a minimum they should have a thorough knowledge of your organisation's brochure and website
  • as bright students will already have studied the brochure and website, it is helpful if representatives can answer additional questions
  • representatives should have up-to-date information about anticipated vacancies and salaries
  • representatives should be briefed on higher education qualifications and the Scottish education system. A wealth of information is available on the QAA's website

What do students want to know?

  • the nature, number, and location of vacancies
  • a typical working week for a research chemist/production engineer/investment analyst/etc
  • major developments in your organisation
  • what you are looking for in applications and interviews
  • academic entry requirements
  • in-service support for professional qualifications
  • starting salaries and progression depending on qualifications on entry
  • a realistic impression of life in your organisation

Speaking with International Students
