Careers ServiceEmploying students

Advertise part-time or summer jobs for students

The Careers Service is the central point in the University where all work opportunities for students are advertised. The Service acts as an information exchange for employers, both local and national, who are offering vacancies and students seeking work. Our aim is to assist students in Getting the Right Work Experience.

Our aim is to protect students from unscrupulous employers and illegal wage rates, as well as help them to find their way to the wide range of work opportunities open to them while at University.

Approval to appoint, payments to students, and contracts

Should your department have a part-time or temporary job, either during the semester or over the summer months, please note that there are three Departments that can assist/advise you with the process from advertising your vacancy to filling the post.

  • Human Resources (contracts etc)
  • Finance Office (how to pay etc)
  • Careers Service (advertising vacancies)

Human Resources

Departments wishing to employ students should contact Human Resources to clarify authorisation process, contract details, pay rates etc. HR also has to assist those involved in recruitment to the University.

Finance Office

Further advice on employing Strathclyde students and the appropriate method of payment can be found on the Finance Office web pages.
The Payroll Section of the Finance Office has specific information on Salary Tables (costs) and Employment of Strathclyde University's students.

Advertising with the Careers Service

The Careers Service operates as an "information exchange" between students and employers. All contracts of employment are between the employer and the student. The Careers Service does not advertise any vacancy which requires a student to work in excess of 15 hours per week during the semester.

How do I advertise?

We have an online vacancy service and employers are required to register online and then input their vacancy details. Registration is required only once and takes just a few minutes.

Keep a note of your username and password for future access/login to the vacancy system. Vacancies are sent to Careers Service staff to be checked before being launched to be viewed by students.

Follow this link to our pages for Employers to register/input vacancy details.
