Registering with the Disability & Wellbeing Service
We encourage you to register with the Disability & Wellbeing Service as soon as possible to ensure that your individual support arrangements can be made.
Disability disclosure on your course application
If you disclosed a disability on your course application, we will be notified and will contact you before, or just as your course begins. We will ask you to complete our questionnaire to provide further information about your needs. You will also be asked to provide evidence in support of your disability.
We begin contacting applicants from May onwards. We will begin with those who may need support arranged before starting, such as where personal support assistants and sign-language interpreters would be required. All applicants who have disclosed a disability and will be starting at Strathclyde will be contacted by September.
Disability disclosure after application
We encourage early disclosure. If you did not disclose a disability during your application process, you can disclose a disability by requesting a disability referral within the 'Disabilities' tab of 'Student Details' on Pegasus. This can be done at any point in your studies. It's a means for those students who have not previously disclosed a disability at the application stage or thereafter. The Referral request form provides us with the course information required to begin registration with our service.
We will then send our disability referral email. This contains a personalised secure link to complete our questionnaire. Here you can disclose your disability and provide information about your needs. The disability referral email also includes a personalised link for you to upload evidence.
Our waiting lists can be lengthy. We encourage you to look out for our referral email subject, "Referral from Strathclyde University Disability and Wellbeing Service". That means you can complete your referral questionnaire and submit evidence as soon as possible. If you do not currently have evidence you should state that on your questionnaire.
Returning students
If you were previously studying at Strathclyde and are returning on a new course, you can submit the disability referral form within the Disabilities tab of Student Details on Pegasus to request to update your information. We will send you an email to allow you to update your information via our disability questionnaire. You may also wish to review your adjustment report for your new course. We will respond to any enquiries that you may have.
What happens next
Our Disability Advisers review the disability questionnaires and evidence received. We may contact you for further information or may add you directly to the waiting list for the appointment type that best suits your requirements.
Due to the volume of referrals we receive at peak times, it may take a few weeks to review your information.
Appointment waiting list
You will receive an email notification when you are added to our appointment waiting list.
Booking an appointment
You will receive an email when appointments become available. This email will include a link to allow you to book an appointment from those available.
Provisional adjustments
Where sufficient information and evidence are provided, provisional teaching and learning adjustments, including exam arrangements, may be made while you wait for an appointment with an adviser.
You will receive an email asking you to review your provisional adjustment report and provide your consent for this to be shared with your department. The 'provisional' status simply shows that these adjustments have been made in advance of meeting with you. Your adjustments would then be updated as part of your appointment and the provisional status would be removed.
