Wellbeing Support, Disability Support, Workshops and Same-Day Help

Looking for Support?

Throughout the academic year, the Disability & Wellbeing Service and our partners deliver a diverse program of workshops, events, training opportunities and drop-ins designed to help students thrive during their time at university. These activities form part of our wider commitment to supporting student wellbeing, mental health, disability inclusion, academic success and personal development.

Our programme covers a wide range of topics and themes, from wellbeing, mental health, resilience and self-care, to disability support, neurodiversity, study skills, physical activity, belonging, personal development and navigating university life. Whether you are looking to develop new skills, gain practical strategies, explore support options, connect with others, or learn more about topics that matter to you, we encourage you to get involved.

Many of these opportunities are designed to promote wellbeing, strengthen protective factors, encourage early intervention and help students access support before difficulties become overwhelming. Others provide opportunities to build confidence, develop knowledge, celebrate diversity and foster a sense of connection and community across the University.

Whatever stage you are at in your student journey, we hope you'll find opportunities that support your wellbeing, build on your strengths and help you make the most of your time at Strathclyde.

Wellbeing Workshops

Our wellbeing workshops provide practical, evidence-informed strategies that can help you understand and manage common difficulties experienced during university life.

Deadline Ready, Exam Steady:

Is this course right for me?

Target Audience: Students having anxiety or stress around exams

Exams can feel overwhelming, and it’s common for students to find themselves procrastinating, stressed, or stuck in worry. These feelings are completely normal but left unmanaged they can make it even harder to get started with revision or feel confident in your studies. This 1.5 hour workshop will introduce practical CBT-based tools to manage anxiety, break the cycle of procrastination and build strategies to stay, motivated.

This will be an 1-hour interactive workshop where you’ll learn techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts, stay motivated, and manage stress so you can focus and revise more effectively. This will be followed by an optional 30-minute stay-back session where you’ll get hands-on support to ask questions, practise the tools, and leave knowing how to use them—not just what they are.

What we’ll cover:

  • Introduction and Understanding anxiety.
  • Managing Anxious Thoughts.
  • Practical tools to stress management.
  • Developing a personal plan.
  • Course Dates: TBC

Delivered By: Manisha Gosar and Fiona Rae

Get Help With Anxiety:

Is this course right for me?
Calling all students, do you struggle with Anxiety and Panic?

If the answer is yes, then you are not alone. Many students report feeling anxious during their time at university. A build-up of stress from pressures such as academic, financial, social, family and the environment as well as big life events or traumatic events can cause anxiety. Whilst most of us will feel anxious from time to time, anxiety can really ramp up and interrupt or upset our way of being, our routines and limit our activities.

Anxiety affects our minds and bodies, and the physical symptoms can be scary and uncomfortable as our nervous system fires into high alert. We can then become anxious about our anxiety and get trapped in an anxiety loop, which can affect or limit our behaviours.

The good news is that we can change our relationship with anxiety. We can learn how to respond to our bodies when the threat response is activated or misfires. Through understanding the biological and cognitive processes we can minimise the grip of the anxiety on our daily lives and learn to act despite our fears.

Join us in this 4-week open programme as we explore all things anxiety, drawing on some psychological insights and theory and sharing examples from the therapy room that help reduce the suffering associated with Anxiety.

Sessions are designed to be informal and psychoeducational; you can join at any point in the four weeks as the content repeats after week four. Participants are welcome to participate and share or equally, you can join this online resource and keep your camera off with no expectation that you must talk.

Let's Talk: Daily Wellbeing Drop-In

Monday to Friday, 3:00pm until 4:00pm

Whether you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed, struggling with your mental health, or simply unsure what support might help, Let's Talk provides an opportunity to have an informal conversation with one of our counsellors.

This weekday drop-in offers a safe and supportive space to discuss any concerns affecting your wellbeing. Together, we can think about what is happening for you, explore potential next steps, and identify sources of support that may be helpful.

During a Let's Talk session, we can:

  • Listen to your concerns
  • Help you make sense of what you are experiencing
  • Explore options for support
  • Discuss services available within the University
  • Signpost to NHS, community, and specialist services where appropriate
  • Help you decide whether counselling or another form of support may be beneficial

Let's Talk is not a counselling appointment and does not provide ongoing therapeutic support. However, for some students it may be the first step in accessing counselling or other wellbeing services.

You do not need to be in crisis or have a specific problem to attend. If something is affecting your wellbeing, we're here to listen.

When: Monday to Friday, 3:00pm
Facilitated by: University Counsellors
Who can attend: Any registered Strathclyde student

Weekly Mindfulness Drop In

Tuesday, 1200-1230, Chaplaincy

Come along to the chaplaincy every Tuesday between 1200 and 1230. Mindfulness is designed to help you learn new ways of managing difficult physical sensations, feelings, thoughts and moods. The core skills that you will learn are; a way of paying attention, on purpose, non-judgementally to what goes on in the present moment in your body, mind and the world around you. Mindfulness can enable you to see things differently. It can increase your sense of personal confidence and of having more options and more strength to face the different challenges in your life.
