About the Children’s Collection

This is a collection of approximately 20,000 books written for children ranging from the very young to teenagers and young adults. The collection contains fiction and non-fiction and new materials are added regularly.

The children’s books are found on Level 5 of the Library. Turn right as you exit the stairwell.

The books in the children’s collection are purchased to support students from the Strathclyde Institute of Education, but they may be borrowed by all students and staff of the University of Strathclyde.

Using the Children’s Collection

To find books in the children’s collection you should use SUPrimo to search the Library Collections:

  • if you know the book’s title enter this, for example, Goodnight Mister Tom
  • alternatively, try a search on a topic in SUPrimo, for example, 'animals', and use the filter 'Children’s books' to see a listing of books on your topic which are written for children

Children’s books are listed in SUPrimo with the prefix J in their classmark, for example, J 739 JAK.

Fiction books for younger children can be found at J 808.33

Fiction books for older children, teenagers and young adults can be found at J 808.3
