ExamsWhat you need to do

Before the exams

Check your timetable

Check your exam timetable as soon as it is published. If you have any clashes or concerns, contact your department straight away. Regularly check for any amendments to your exam timetable.

Fully register

Make sure you are fully registered for all the modules you are taking. Students who are incorrectly registered may experience difficulties with their exam timetables.

Have photo ID

Make sure you have physical photo ID.  Acceptable forms of photo ID are:

  • Young Scot National Entitlement Card
  • driving license
  • residency permit photo card (for example CPR card)
  • passport

If you do not have one of these alternative forms of ID you can request a student card (not yet available on the Bahrain campus – coming soon).

ID on a mobile phone is not acceptable.

Know your registration number

Know your registration number! You will need to write your 9-digit student registration number (for example, 201234567) on your answer book.

Know where your exam will take place

Visit your exam rooms before your exams. Know where you are going so you don't get lost on the day of your exam.

Ask for any reasonable adjustments you need

If you think you may require reasonable adjustments for your exams and you haven't already been in touch with your department or the Disability & Wellbeing team, let them know now.

Practice

Look at past exam papers to help you prepare for your exam.

The night before an exam

Pack your bag

make sure you have photo ID, your registration number, pens, pencils, tissues, bottle of water and any other materials you're allowed to bring into the exam

Check your travel arrangements

Double check your travel plans to ensure there has been no changes (best to plan to arrive 20 minutes before exam start)

Set your alarm

Don't risk sleeping in!

Get a good night's sleep

Try to have a good night’s rest and avoid caffeine and alcohol.

On the day of an exam

Double check your timetable and location

Check there have been no changes to where your exam is taking place.

Fuel up

Have something to eat and drink.

Layer up

Try to wear layers of clothing so you can adapt to the room temperature.

Protect your peace

Avoid people or things that may disturb your self-confidence.

Comfort break

Go to the toilet before your exam.

Arrive early

Arrive at least twenty minutes before your exam is due to start.

Turn off your phone

Switch off your mobile phone before entering exam room

Take your time

Take time to read the exam paper thoroughly.

After an exam

You did it!

Make sure you congratulate yourself for the things you did right. Reward yourself for your hard work. Do something that makes you feel good, coffee with a friend, shopping, playing computer games.

What if something went wrong?

Sometimes things don't go as planned. Read through our advice on the exam problems page.

Don’t spend time criticising yourself for where you think you went wrong or spend longer than is helpful talking to your friends about how badly you think the exam went.
