Financial support for students affected by global conflict
We recognise that ongoing global conflicts may be causing uncertainty and distress for some of our students, including financial difficulties. The University has Financial Support Funds that may be available to support students who are experiencing financial hardship as a direct result of a global conflict, where this has led to a significant change in their circumstances.
Who this support is intended for
This support is intended for students whose finances have been directly and materially affected by a global conflict.
Examples of situations that may be considered include:
- a loss or significant reduction of financial support from overseas due to conflict or disruption
- being required to financially support family members affected by a conflict
- being unable to access funds from overseas because of banking disruption linked to a conflict
In all cases, students must be experiencing genuine financial hardship that puts them at risk of not being able to continue their studies.
Who this support is not intended for
These funds are not intended to support:
- general cost‑of‑living pressures affecting all students
- students whose financial situation has not changed as a result of a global conflict
- requests to cover tuition fees
- requests to subsidise high or privately‑chosen accommodation costs
If your circumstances do not relate to a direct financial impact from a global conflict, you may still wish to explore other money advice or support options available through the University.
What happens next
If you believe your situation meets the criteria above, you can submit a short pre‑assessment request outlining how you have been financially affected. Your information will be reviewed by the Student Money Support Team.
If your circumstances indicate that you may be eligible for support, you will then be given access to the full application system. Submitting a pre‑assessment request does not guarantee that funding will be awarded.
