University electric vehicles outside TIC

The University is transitioning to a low emission fleet for its owned and leased vehicles to:

  • help reduce fuel consumption in fleet vehicles
  • provide lower emissions options for business travel.

We currently have four electric vans in use across our Estates department and the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland. There are also two shared electric pool cars that are available to all staff and PHD students for business use.

Electric pool cars

All University staff can access our two shared electric cars, free of charge for business travel. This is a great alternative to taxi use, personal vehicle use, or very short vehicle hires. These vehicles are based on Richmond Street in the John Anderson campus.

To join the University EV car club, sign up for an EV Driver Induction Course or add your name to the waiting list. We run sessions on a regular basis. We can run bespoke sessions if a departmental group would like to sign up.

How does it work?

The cars can be booked out through an online booking system or via the app. The booking system used is Co-Wheels, with the cars on a private account, only available to University users. This allows users from across the University to see live availability of the cars, and manage their bookings. Users will be issued with a smartcard to access the cars so there is no need for keys. We currently have two electric vehicles:
