Electric Vehicles

The University is transitioning to a low-emission fleet to reduce our carbon footprint and provide lower-emission options for business travel.

We currently have four electric vans across our Estates department and the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and operate a shared pool car scheme for business use.

Electric pool cars

All University staff and Postgraduate Researchers can access our two shared electric cars, free of charge for business travel. This is an excellent alternative to taxi use, personal vehicle use, or very short vehicle hires. These vehicles are based on Richmond Street in the John Anderson campus.

All the information about how the scheme works, what cars are available, and how to join can be found on the Pool Cars SharePoint page. Login details are required to access this page.

Contact Sustainable Strathclyde if you have any further questions at sustainability@strath.ac.uk.

Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging

The University does not currently have staff or student EV charging at the John Anderson campus. The existing EV chargers on campus are for departmental vehicles or the shared electric pool cars for staff. There are nearby public chargers in the Duke Street car park and Collins Street car park that can be viewed on the Charge Place Scotland Map.

Staff and visitor charging is available at the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) and the Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC) due to the lack of nearby chargers.
