‘This image explores collaboration in net-zero housing retrofits, reimagining it as a dialogue between the engineered systems of buildings and the lived experiences of residents. The artwork maps a collaborative ecosystem where institutional partners such as city councils and housing companies provide infrastructure and smart technologies, while residents contribute cultural context, warmth, and the realities of daily life. The central threads symbolise the tension and connection between these worlds. By integrating tenant voices with technical data, the work highlights how collaboration can bridge the performance gap and ensure that smart technologies adapt to people, rather than requiring households to adapt to machines.’
