SCELG at the IV International Water Congress in Ourense, Spain
Francesco Sindico delivered a key note speech during the 4th International Water Congress ‘Law and Water in the 2030 Horizon’ in Ourense, Spain. His presentation was titled ‘Groundwater: An invisible natural resource in times of Climate emergency’ and took place on 13 October 2022. The conference was organised by the ‘Water Campus’ of the University of Vigo in Spain. Francesco highlighted the water and climate change nexus stressing the need of integrated resource water management for climate change adaptation. He also pointed out to the need of increased cooperation between international water and international climate change legal and financial frameworks. Finally, he suggested that law needs to be bold and highlighted in this respect new trends, such as giving water bodies rights (in Spain the Mar Menor has just been given legal personality through legislation), and strategic climate change litigation. Francesco is a member of the scientific council of the ‘Water Campus’ and he looks forward to continuing to collaborate with the University of Vigo in this capacity. On the day of the conference Francesco was interviewed by the local paper “La Voz de Galicia”
