Gate rudder system as a retrofit for the next generation propulsion and steering of ships
Overview
GATERS brings together 18 technology experts and prime stakeholders to demonstrate and exploit the benefits of the innovative energy saving propulsor/manoeuvring device (more than 15% fuel saving), “Gate Rudder System (GRS)”, on ships as a retrofit.
The 3-year (Feb 2021 – Jan2024) innovation action type collaborative project is led by the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean & Marine Engineering under the EC’s H2020 framework (Grant Agreement: 860337) with an approximate €6 million budget to develop the next generation green propulsion system
The Consortium
The GATERS consortium has purposefully brought together 18 leading partners with industry experts in shipping, technology-providing manufacturers, a leading class society, design consultants, testing facilities and academic/research institutions to achieve the ambitious project goals.
