Department Student Wellbeing and Support

We are committed to supporting all students during their studies. We have an Open Door policy and each student has a Personal Development Advisor.

If you ever feel like it’s getting on top of you, or you don’t know where to turn, know it’s never too late to approach us and we are here to get you back on the right track.

  • Your Personal Development Advisor is your first point of contact if you need advice or support with any aspect of your studies.

  • We operate an Open Door Policy which means you can contact academic staff at any time during the working week.
  • Many teaching staff also list Office Hours on their MyPlace pages.

  • There’s always a friendly smile waiting for you in our Student Support Office (JA 831)
  • Phone us on 0141 548 3366

  • The Disability & Wellbeing Service has a range of advisers with specialist expertise in supporting students with disabilities or mental health challenges.

  • Strathclyde Physics holds an Athena SWAN Bronze Departmental Award reflecting our commitment to creating a working environment where all students and staff feel included and supported.

  • The ‘Ask Alex’ service for trans, non-binary and gender diverse students and staff connects named contacts working across the University who can provide advice, assistance and support in a range of areas.

  • Gabrielle Weir and Dr Ben Hourahine are the Department of Physics Mental Health First Aiders.

  • Sometimes there are circumstances outside of your control, that affect your ability to perform at your best. We have a Personal Circumstances procedure to record these. When completing them, we ask that you include the activity that has been affected.
