Personal statement

I am a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) and Chancellor’s Fellow in the Department of Government and Public Policy at the University of Strathclyde. My research focuses on the international political economy of finance and development. I am particularly interested in sovereign debt, financial markets, capital flows, aid flows, loan conditionality, government transparency, economic development, and international organizations. My book How Governments Borrow, on the politics of government borrowing decisions and debt composition in developing countries, is with Oxford University Press. Related work is published in British Journal of Political Science, Governance, International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Politics, Political Science Research & Methods, Review of International Organizations, Review of International Political Economy, and other outlets. My research has been funded by the Carnegie Trust and I have worked with NGOs and international organizations such as the African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD), Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), International Budget Partnership (IBP), and Collaborative African Budget Reform Initiative (CABRI) on debt management practices and governance in developing countries. See my CV or website for more.
