Personal statement

Dr Bronagh Murphy is a Teaching Associate within the Centre for Forensic Science and Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry. She contributes to both postgraduate and undergraduate teaching, including delivery of theory modules on Analytical Chemistry for Forensic Scientists, Fires and Explosives and Forensic Trace Analysis. Bronagh is also the Laboratory Coordinator for the MSc Forensic Science programme, leading on delivery of the Essentials of Forensic Science and Forensic Chemistry practical modules.

Research Interests

General research interests include identification of trace explosives, ignitable liquids and biofuels, emollients, and laboratory sustainability. 

Current research projects include:

  • Monitoring the bioethanol and biodiesel components of E10 petrol and B7 Diesel and investigating the impact of weathering, packaging, storage, and extraction methods on their chemical composition.
  • Identification of minor components within bioethanol fuels which could be useful for identification of bioethanol fuels in fire investigations.
  • Investigating the impact of measures to improve sustainability within a forensic and/or analytical chemistry laboratory.
