Teaching
I am responsible for teaching the 5th year EME course module on advanced engineering systems. This module aims to train students in the modelling and simulation of complex interdisciplinary engineering systems. A key feature of this class is the second semester case study element, which provides the opportunity for students to engage with current topics in a wide variety of engineering fields, enhancing the relevance of their degrees.
I also support a number of other modules and provide supervision for undergraduate and postgraduate individual projects.
Research Interests
My research interests lie in the areas of aircraft electrical and mechanical systems modelling and simulation, network design and analysis, and protection and control. These areas are especially relevant in the development of future aircraft as an ever increasing appreciation of systems-of-systems design and optimisation is required. My recent research activities have been focused across a number of different applications ranging from power electronics based more-electric engine and UAV power distribution systems through to modern civil airliner electrical network concepts. Additionally, relevant knowledge and expertise from shipboard and land based power system design and analysis regularly supports my research into aircraft power systems by utilising the read-across from these domains to apply novel technologies or methods to aerospace applications.
