Personal statement
A graduate of the University of St Andrews, Stuart followed his research career at Heriot-Watt University and in Germany by establishing Helia Photonics in Livingston as part of its founding management team.
In 2005, Stuart joined the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) to build Scotland’s Research Pools. Latterly, he spent six years as SFC’s Director of Research and Innovation. In that role, Stuart contributed to UK and Scottish Government policy on research and led work with the university sector to enhance knowledge exchange and entrepreneurship in Scotland, including by establishing and developing Innovation Centres.
Stuart is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, the Royal Society of Arts and the Academy of Social Sciences.
