Welcome
We're a leading, international technological university located in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland's biggest city. We believe in useful learning which guides our research, our learning and teaching and the way we work with businesses and organisations.
We have a strong international population including hundreds of students from South America each year. Over the years, our University has hosted several Colombian students, mainly at graduate level, with our current Colombian students studying for MBA and business related subjects.
We also collaborate with the British Chevening Association, Colombia.
Strathclyde International Society
Run by students, for students, the International Society is the first stop for all international students arriving at Strathclyde.
It's the perfect place to meet new people and learn about many different countries and cultures. You can learn more about Glasgow and Scotland too.
There are weekly international pub, movie and games nights which are regularly attended by more than 100 people from countries across the world.
The International Society loves to get out of the city for a bit of sightseeing too. Recent trips have included:
- Edinburgh Zoo
- Isle of Arran
- Stonehaven
- Isle of Skye
- Ben Nevis
- Alnwick Castle (Harry Potter trip)
If you're joining us here at Strathclyde, you can add the Strathclyde International Society as a friend on Facebook to keep up to date with what they're doing and where they meet. You can also email the team for any other information.
We're looking forward to seeing you at Strathclyde!
Entry requirements
Undergraduate
You can apply for undergraduate programmes either through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) or the Common Application. Please use only one method of applying. If you're using UCAS to apply for other UK universities, please also make your University of Strathclyde application through UCAS and do not use the Common Application.
For admission into the University's foundation programme, which is run by Study Group, we'll consider students who have gained the Bachillerato (Diploma de Bachillér) – a qualification comparable to GCSE grades A*-C standard, on a subject for subject basis. On successful completion of the foundation programme you'll progress into Year 2 of the main undergraduate Bachelors degree.
Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or British A-Levels will be considered for admission to our Bachelor degree courses. If you have high scores, you may be eligible for second year entry.
Applicants who have successfully completed the first year of a Colombian University degree (Licenciado/Título Profesional) will be considered for admission to our Bachelor degree courses.
Postgraduate
You can apply for all our postgraduate programmes from the relevant course page.
The standard requirement for entry to a taught masters programme is an undergraduate (Bachelor) degree that is equivalent to a UK Upper Second Class degree (also known as a 2:1).
Applicants who hold a Licenciado/Título Profesional (GPA 3.5+) awarded after four or more years of study will be considered for admission to a Masters degree.
Applicants who hold a Título de Maestría/Magister degree will be considered for admission to PhD study.
For further information on entry requirements, please contact our representative Melissa Cunningham (melissa.cunningham@strath.ac.uk).
English language requirements
If English isn't your first language, you'll need to provide proof of English language proficiency from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
Our IELTS requirement is 6.5, however some courses may look for more.
Improving your English
If you need to improve your English to meet the language conditions of your degree offer, you can take one of our ELT English language courses here without needing to re-take IELTS or another English language test.
Degree preparation courses
The University of Strathclyde International Study Centre offers international students, who do not meet direct requirements for a course, the option of completing an Undergraduate Foundation, International Year One or Pre-Masters programme. Upon successful completion, students will be able to progress to a degree level course at the University of Strathclyde.
How to apply
Apply through our course pages.

While you're here
Glasgow has so much to see and do while you're here.
Shopping and entertainment
Our music scene, bars and restaurants are renowned and we've one of the best shopping experiences in the UK.
There are museums, numerous sporting venues and more than 90 parks, with the oldest - Glasgow Green - a 10-minute walk from our campus.
Glasgow is also a great base for exploring Scotland's beautiful lochs and mountains or for flying to some of Europe's most attractive destinations.
Student union
The student union here at Strathclyde is a great place to grab a bite to eat and catch up with friends between classes.
Like us, it's based in the middle of the city centre and is an array of events, clubs and societies that you can join.
Eating out
There are loads of places to grab a quick sandwich or have a longer, relaxed lunch or dinner around here.
If you're looking for a full Scottish breakfast, The Wee Guys Cafe is the place to be. Have a healthy lunch in Martha's where you're guaranteed fast, natural food to keep you going through those study hours. There are also so many great restaurants to suit all tastes: from Jamie's Italian and Prezzo, to Topolabamba and Cafe Andaluz to Wagamama and Ichiban, you'll never be stuck for somewhere to eat out.
Keep an eye on The List for some more places to eat.
