Eligibility

This is a generous scholarship available for an excellent candidate. Applicants must have excellent academic records but may also bring with them relevant industry expertise. While the domains typically focused on within SYI include marketing, innovation, entrepreneurship, and international business, applicants can come from a range of management and technical backgrounds as the SYI takes an interdisciplinary approach to its research.

Strathclyde Business School is committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive postgraduate research population. We make decisions on entry by assessing the whole person and not relying solely on academic achievements. On that basis, please ensure that your application (via your CV and covering letter) can evidence your resourcefulness, commitment and resilience as demonstrated by broader professional and life experiences. This evidence should be centred on your ability to undertake and complete a PhD and contribute to a positive PhD community.

If English isn't your first language, you'll need an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent with no individual element below 5.5.

Your application must include:

Project Details

Strathclyde Business School’s newly formed Stephen Young Institute (SYI) conducts research in international business, sustainable business, sustainable innovation and social impact.

Inspired by the work of our namesake, Prof. Stephen Young, a former professor of Strathclyde Business School’s Marketing Department, SYI focuses on relationships between people and organisations in value networks in an international business context.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the beginning of the Stephen Young Institute as it launches into the world. As the Institute grows, our doctoral researchers will play a key role in building our expertise through their research and by building connections with businesses, non-profits and policymakers based in Scotland, the UK and across the globe. Their projects will seek to understand and impact value networks with a focus on equality and sustainability, and achieving business value outcomes that balance people, planet and profit. Research topics may include organisations operating in low-medium income countries, businesses large and small that are focusing on sustainable international business, and partnerships for sustainable innovation.
