Summary

We are delighted to announce the Borders & Shires scholarship, awarding the successful applicant a scholarship of £2,812 to pay their fees for the dissertation level of the MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic, and Heraldic Studies in academic year 2025-26. It has been created with funding from a member of our alumni group who wishes to promote academic level genealogical research and to honour their family’s memory.

The aim of this scholarship is to further the education of genealogists with a focus on supporting those who have no access to other opportunities for financial support.

The name Borders and Shires holds two meanings: first, as recognition of applicants crossing international borders to achieve academic excellence in genealogical studies; second, as an homage to the donor’s ancestors from the Scottish Borders and Dumfriesshire, plus those south of the English border in Cumberland, Derbyshire, and Nottinghamshire.

The scholarship will be awarded annually.
