As part of its longstanding commitment to growing its population of excellent postgraduate researchers, the Faculty is offering one Diamond Jubilee Research Scholarship for an International candidate. The award will apply for each year of study, up to a maximum of 3 years for full-time study.
Further information
If you already have an offer of study commencing in 2026/27, you do not need to apply again, but you should inform us via hass-pgr-scholarships@strath.ac.uk quoting your application number and that you wish to be considered for the Diamond Jubilee Research Scholarship funding competition, prior to closing date.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by early June.
Successful applicants must be available to start their studies on 1 October 2026.
Funding: It is important to note, that this competition is for Tuition Fees only and potential applicants should give this careful consideration because, if successful, it cannot be used in conjunction with any other Strathclyde award. You would need to be able to demonstrate that you can afford to self-fund the cost of living (for entry to the UK), estimated at around £20,000 per annum for PGR study, as there is no stipend with this award. Additional costs you would incur include Visa charges, Immigration Health Surcharge and travel costs. Therefore, you must decide, prior to applying, whether or not this is financially viable as no additional financial assistance or support is available.
How to apply
Identify a potential supervisor
Step 1 – view our research subjects and identify the area in which you want to study
Step 2 – once you’ve found the subject you’re interested in, review the supervisors list on that page and each academic’s profile to see if their research interests align with your proposed study
Step 3 – contact the relevant supervisor, with a copy of your research proposal and CV, to discuss your intended research topic. Email addresses are available on the supervisor’s staff profile page
Step 4 – the supervisor will advise on the suitability of the subject matter and should arrange to meet with you before recommending whether to submit a formal application
Step 5 - the supervisor will complete a “Supervisor Statement” which you should upload to the online application along with the other required documents as detailed below
Submit your application
Once you’ve carried out the steps above, please follow the instructions on the ‘Apply’ tab which is available within each of the research subjects pages.
Online application (Pegasus system) – documentation required

- all academic transcripts & certificates to date
- 2 Academic reference letters

The University is aware of the temptation to use Generative AI, (including ChatGPT), however these tools do not always generate accurate and up-to-date information. Our academics, who are experts in their field, are very good at identifying when text has been generated in this way and expect your research proposal to be written in your own words. We need to know that you have the academic skills required to write a thesis and can only support you on your journey when we see your own work.
In the Funding section – please state “Diamond Jubilee Research Scholarship 2026/27 - International Fees”
All applications will be scored and ranked by the Faculty before a scholarship offer is confirmed and issued.
