Humanities and Social Sciences RUK Undergraduate Performance Sport Scholarship

The HaSS RUK Undergraduate Performance Sport Scholarship aims to enable talented student-athletes who are regularly competing at International level to follow a dual career. Consequently, the programme provides academic flexibility (where feasible), World-Class sports science and medical support, and financial assistance towards training and competition costs.

The Performance Sport Scholarship Programme is offered on a one-year renewable basis based on the Performance Sport Panel’s review of applications each year.

Performance Sport Scholars are provided with a comprehensive support package equating to a cash equivalent of up to £6,250 per year.

Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences: International Scholarships Postgraduate Taught 2022/23 (January entry)

We offer several scholarships for our Faculty of Humanities & Social applicants joining postgraduate taught programmes in academic year 2022/23.

All self-funded, international (non-EU) fee-paying offer holders with strong academic qualifications are encouraged to apply. Please note - you must hold an offer to a full-time postgraduate taught degree programme starting in January 2023 before your scholarship application will be considered.

If you're applying for a postgraduate taught degree programme, you'll receive a scholarship award equivalent to a 20% reduction of your tuition fees, which will typically be £3,000 - £3,750.

In addition to this, we have a limited number of Dean’s International Excellence Awards for our postgraduate taught applicants. These scholarships are worth £4,000 - £5,000 and will be offered to exceptional applicants at postgraduate taught level. Applicants need to only submit one application and will be considered for all levels of postgraduate taught scholarships.

Please note that the awards cannot be combined, you will be considered for either the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences International Scholarship Postgraduate Taught or the Dean’s International Excellence Award.

Scotland's STEM Bursary for Initial Teacher Education

The STEM Bursary scheme is open to individuals wishing to undertake a one-year secondary PGDE course leading to the award of registered teacher status in the hardest-to-fill STEM subjects.

A bursary of £20,000 per student is available to those starting the PGDE in Secondary Education for Mathematics, Computing Science, Technological Education, Physics with Science, Chemistry with Science or Home Economics in August 2022.

The bursary is an incentive to ease the financial transition for career changers to undertake initial teacher education and will be over and above any normal student support provided by Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS), as long as students meet the SAAS eligibility criteria. Students eligible for the bursary can also apply separately to SAAS to have tuition fees paid by the Scottish Government.

The closing date for applications to the 2022/23 STEM Bursary scheme has yet to be announced but applicants are advised to submit as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. For the 2022/23 academic year, there are 150 bursaries available in Scotland, and applications are considered in the order that they are submitted.

For international doctoral students, the Dean's Global Research Award from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will cover 50% of the international tuition fee for selected self-funded Postgraduate Research students. the award will apply for each year of study, up to 3 years maximum.

Data Lab Scholarship for MSc Data Science for Politics & Policymaking

Four full tuition scholarships are available for MSc Data Science for Politics & Policymaking for the 2022/23 academic year. These scholarships are available to new Scottish/EU students joining these courses. These scholarships have been made possible with funding from the Data Lab, Scottish Funding Council and the European Social Fund.

The Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust was set up in 1979 by their son and daughter in law, John and Elnora. Its objectives have closely followed the interests of the Ferguson family in their commitment to education, peace and development in the Third World. In 1997, the substantial holding of Taylor and Francis shares became valuable when the publishing company was floated, and its subsequent merger with Informa further enhanced the value of the shares in the Trust. Over the last 15 years, more than £30 million has been distributed to a range of charities working in the UK and overseas.

The Trust will only provide a one-off grant to postgraduate PhD students in their final year of study, therefore if you have received a grant previously you are not eligible to apply again, even if you require funding to help with a different course.

The Trust does not support students undertaking a postgraduate diploma/certificate, or Masters degree (such as an MA, MSc, MBA, LLM, MEd, Mphil, Mres).
