Entry from college What is articulation?

What is articulation?

Articulation is the name given to an academic journey that begins with the study of a Higher National (HN) qualification at college and ends in a university degree course, without repetition of the same academic level.

Most of the qualifications gained in Scotland are rated on the Scottish Credit Qualification Framework (SCQF), according to level and hours of learning undertaken. For example, a Higher Grade is rated Level 6, whilst both an HNC and Year 1 of a University Degree are rated Level 7. For more information about SCQF academic levels, see the SCQF Interactive Framework.

1+3 route

This means that for those students who complete an HNC at college, as long as the content of that course is appropriately matched to the content of Year 1 of a relevant university degree, it may be possible to enter Year 2 of the university degree you wish to study, as long as you have met all of the conditions. This is called the "1+3 route".
