Strathclyde has been recognised as one of the top universities in the world for sustainability.
The University was placed 80th out of more than 2,000 institutions in the world in the latest QS World University Sustainability rankings.
The international league table, which measures the ability of higher education institutions to tackle global environmental, social and governance challenges, sees Strathclyde rising 37 places from its 2025 ranking of 117th, and nationally to 25th out of 109 UK institutions.
Strathclyde’s ranking position improved in the two key areas of governance (by 431 places to 13th) and social impact (by 54 places to 86th).
Strathclyde’s Principal & Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen McArthur, said:
This ranking and achievement is a clear indicator of our commitment to sustainability and our global leadership in sustainable development.
Strathclyde is dedicated to addressing the climate emergency and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its research, education, and operations.
“Our research is making a tangible difference in many ways, from protecting the environment and improving health outcomes, to advancing clean energy technologies and shaping policies that promote social justice.”
Flagship sustainability projects led by Strathclyde span from the Design HOPES initiative, which is using design-led research to help reduce NHS Scotland’s carbon output, to a new research centre for sustainable shipping. The university is also leading a project to create a 100 per cent renewable climate neutral and climate resilient area within Glasgow City Innovation District.
An MSc Sustainability programme also draws on the sustainability expertise from all four faculties – Business, Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Science.
