Dr Mark Haw, Reader in the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, has been awarded the 2026 Morton Medal for excellence in chemical engineering education, by the industry’s professional body, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
The Morton Medal is named for Frank Morton, a highly influential figure in Chemical Engineering industry and education, who shaped the UK approach to teaching in the discipline in the years after the Second World War.
Alongside excellence in engineering teaching and learning over an 18 year career at Strathclyde, Dr Haw’s citation singles out the substantial contribution to public engagement in the discipline represented by the Department’s ReallySmallScience outreach group.

Dr Haw said: "While this medal might have my name on it, the award really demonstrates the value of all the collaborative work that has gone into teaching and outreach in the Department over the past years, the commitment from everyone in every role."
ReallySmallScience was created by Dr Haw in 2014 and is still going strong in 2026 with major involvement in Young Strathclyder, the Glasgow Science Festival, and even a road trip to the Stornoway Science Festival.
Dr Haw was presented with the Morton Medal by IChemE President Professor Rafaella Ocone, in a ceremony at the Glasgow Science Centre, at the end of May.
