The University of Strathclyde has climbed 21 places to joint 230^th in the QS World University Rankings 2027 – its highest-ever position in the table.

It is the second consecutive year that the University has improved its position, having risen by 30 places in 2026, putting it among the top 15% of ranked institutions worldwide and in the top 30 in the UK.

A total of 8,808 institutions worldwide were evaluated, with 1,504 included in the final rankings, among them 93 in the UK.

Strathclyde’s sustainability ranking rose 37 places to joint 80^th globally, while International Research Network increased by 82 places to 181^st.

Citations per Faculty also climbed 65 places to 241^st, ranking 17^th in the UK, while Employer Reputation rose by 47 places to 288^th. Academic Reputation improved by two places to 317^th.

Professor Stephen McArthur, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, said: “It is encouraging to see Strathclyde’s continued progress reflected in this year’s QS rankings.

Although league tables are only one measure, this result recognises the strength of our research, the reach of our international partnerships and the contribution our University makes through education, innovation and impact, made possible by the talent and commitment of our staff, students and partners.

The improvement reflects areas in which Strathclyde has particular strengths, including industry-engaged research, strong international collaboration, and a long-standing focus on innovation and impact in areas such as advanced manufacturing, health, energy and sustainability.

In the latest HESA Graduate Outcomes survey, 83% of Strathclyde graduates in employment are in high-skilled jobs, while in the 2025 QS World University Sustainability rankings, the University was placed 80^th out of more than 2,000 institutions in the world.

The University’s strengths are reflected in other league tables too. Strathclyde was named Scottish University of the Year and Runner-up UK University of the Year in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026, coming in at 11^th in the newspapers’ league table, up from 20^th the previous year.

Strathclyde also secured the UK University of the Year title in the Daily Mail University Guide 2026 and placed joint-sixth in its rankings – its highest position to date in a university league table.
