16 Days of Action 2024

Content note: The information below includes content around gender-based violence and abuse.

From 25 November to 10 December 2024, the University of Strathclyde marks the 16 Days of Action against Gender-Based Violence, an international campaign that begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and ends on Human Rights Day. The 16 Days also include the Fight for the Night march, organised annually by Strath Union.

The 16 Days consist of events and workshops aimed at educating and raising awareness on combatting gender-based violence (GBV). During this time, we highlight our solidarity. No one should have to go through experiences alone, and there are those who will listen to them, believe, and support them.

There are a range of activities for Strathclyde students and staff to get involved in.

Strathclyde Safe 360°

At Strathclyde, our first priority is the safety, health and wellbeing of our university community. Therefore, unacceptable behaviour has no place at Strathclyde, and we will not tolerate any form of discrimination, harassment, victimisation or bullying.

Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis Support (GCRC) for Strathclyde students

The service is open to students of all genders who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives. Sexual violence is any kind of sexual contact that happened without consent including but not limited to: rape, sexual assault, sharing intimate images without consent, grooming, childhood sexual abuse, forced marriage and stalking. Any student who has experienced any form of sexual violence at any point in their lives can access support. Or if you just want to ask some questions about something that has happened or if you have any concerns. We also offer support to friends and family members of survivors.

Report & Support at Strathclyde

Report & Support is a facility where anyone can disclose behaviours or issues they believe puts the safety of the Strathclyde community at risk.

You can use this form to report problematic behaviours such as harassment, Gender-Based Violence, stalking, and discrimination, or to raise concerns about safety, and issues that undermine our inclusive University.

Gender-Based Violence First Responders at Strathclyde

First Responders can provide information on reporting options available to you and can help you complete a Report and Support submission on any issue at any time. They can then point you to support services within the University along with relevant external organisations.

Tackling Gender-Based Violence Course

In 2022, the University launched the course ‘Tackling Gender-Based Violence’ for students. This course, developed by Rape Crisis Scotland, gives an overall understanding of gender-based violence and the impact it can have within a university context. It also covers consent and provides you with tools to challenge gender-based violence and information on policies, procedures and support available at the University of Strathclyde.

This MyPlace course is self-directed, non-credit bearing and takes around 40 minutes to complete. The course is encouraged for all new and continuing students, including UG, PGT and PGR.

You can access the Tackling Gender-Based Violence course on Myplace (log-in required).
