Strathclyde Business School has a partnership with the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid. This partnership spans across a wide range of pathways, in particular with their Business School; ICADE. ICADE is ranked 3rd in Spain for Business Administration by El Mundo, the Spanish news organisation. Comillas is also part of the International Partnership of Business Schools (IPBS), a consortium of prestigious business schools across the world in which the partner institutions offer joint bachelor and masters programmes.
SBS has been working with Comillas for nearly a decade with the inception of their joint MBA programme for the leader in renewable energies in the world, Iberdrola. This led to opportunities for both Universities to work together on and has allowed us to deepen our relationship.
Undergraduate Student Exchange
Each year we have students from our undergraduate course, Masters in International Business and Modern Languages, studying with Comillas for their compulsory year abroad. This agreement is reciprocal and allows us to welcome Comillas students to attend Strathclyde on exchange as well. Comillas is always a popular choice for students due to the quality of their teaching, the experience they provide and being excellently located in the centre of Madrid.
PGR Joint Supervision
Since 2019, SBS and ICADE have delivered a joint PGR supervision programme. This means a student is supervised by a team which includes a second supervisor from an external partner. This agreement also allows the student to spend a significant period of time away from their Home University to attend and progress their studies at the University where their second supervisor is. Fully funded studentship including fees and stipend.
Breaking Barriers
Breaking Barriers is a ground-breaking partnership between ENABLE Scotland, SBS and Scottish Power. The programme, led through ENABLE works, enables young Scots who have a learning disability to attend SBS, achieve an accredited qualification and gain real work experience with some of Scotland’s largest employers. In 2019, we partnered with Comillas on a field trip to Madrid for our Breaking Barriers students. The students travelled to Spain’s capital to share their experiences on the programme, attend specialised sessions and hear from their peers at Comillas. This was a prime example of how our relationship provides major benefits for our stakeholders.
Iberdrola MBA
The MBA in Global Energy Industry is a customised Executive Education programme that adapts the Strathclyde MBA and the Comillas MBA together, to meet the needs of Iberdrola in their ever-growing international landscape. Delivered jointly between Comillas and SBS, the tailored business and engineering classes have been developed to reflect the energy sector imperatives. Alongside core classes that equip the students with a greater understanding of how to really make a business work. On completion, the students receive an MBA from both institutions.
Staff Exchange
We are engaging in staff exchange programmes with Comillas whereby Academic colleagues can visit the partner University. The Academics will spend up to two weeks with SBS and shadow colleagues during classes and research work, allowing them to live Strathclyde campus life and exchange best practice.
We are always looking for new opportunities of collaboration with Comillas and have a number of academic projects that we are exploring with our colleagues in Spain.
