Marketing50th Anniversary

9th International Research Conference in Marketing

50th Anniversary Celebrations continued throughout the Department of Marketing’s 9th International Research Conference in Marketing. Over two days each of our PhD students presented their research via a series of presentations and posters.

We were delighted to welcome Strathclyde Alum Professor Maria Piacentini, Lancaster University, to open the conference with a Keynote Presentation titled 'Plastic Packaging in People's Lives: Reflections on Engaged Academic Research'. Dr Stephanie Anderson of The University of Glasgow, who gained her PhD in the department, also delivered a Keynote titled ‘Care at the Margins: Establishing a Community Food Hub'.

Professor Piacentini and Dr Anderson also took on the difficult job of awarding Best Presentation prizes:

  • 1st Place with The Professor Michael Baker Award was Sissi Lehto for ‘Assessing the impact of marketing automation on fostering engagement across different stages in B2B customer journeys'.
  • 2nd Place went to Sophie Duncan-Shepherd for ‘Exploring Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Consumer Vulnerability – ‘Stigmatised Identities’”
  • 3rd Place was William Jeferson Vieira de Souza for 'Supply Chain Relationship towards Circularity: Investigating how Manufacturers Shape & Coordinate Relationships with External Supply Chain Partners to Develop Circularity Strategies'.
  • Best Poster was Min Hui Angfor ‘Understanding customer data with AI recommender systems in the automotive industry’.

As the conference came to a close, both staff and students were inspired by the invigorating and thought-provoking research discussed over the conference. 50 Years is a lot to celebrate, but as our PhD students have shown us, the future of Marketing is also looking very bright!
