About Work, Employment and Organisation
The Department has a broad focus on human resource management, organisation studies (including sector studies such as hospitality and tourism), organisational behaviour, and employment relations. It undertakes research and wider academic collaboration with a wide range of international and UK public, private and voluntary sector organisations. Members of the Department advise a variety of business, government and civil society organisations including the Scottish and UK Government and their agencies; international bodies that include the UN, European Union and the World Bank; Trades Unions; and a wide range of private and third sector organisations.
Recognition for 70 Years of Professional Education in HRM
The Department of Work, Employment and Organisation was recognised for its contribution to Scottish HR in the 2018 HR Networks Awards. This acknowledged a longstanding and sustained contribution to the Scottish HR profession. The Department has been offering professionally-accredited programmes in HRM since 1948/49. The award also recognised Strathclyde’s ethos of being a place of useful learning, which has sustained a positive level of engagement with the HR community in Scotland and beyond, through teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities.
