How did you make the decision to study at Strathclyde?

The University’s reputation and the rich expertise of the academic staff were the major factors in my decision to study at Strathclyde. Also, being an international student, I could avail the opportunity of a generous scholarship awarded by the university to pursue my masters. The course structure reflected a holistic approach for professional development which resonated deeply with my aspirations. Overall, the combination of academic excellence, practical experience, and potential for impactful contributions made Strathclyde University the ideal choice.

What do you like about your course and Strathclyde?

The curriculum is meticulously designed to incorporate the latest advancements and techniques in molecular microbiology, ensuring relevance and practical applicability. The Department staff members at Strathclyde’s Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences are experts in their respective fields, offering invaluable insights, dedicated mentorship, and support to students throughout their academic journey. The University facilities are equipped with advanced technology and resources, providing students with an optimal environment to conduct experiments and explore new frontiers in microbiology. What specialist knowledge/professional skills have you developed whilst studying the course?

I have gained proficiency in a wide range of molecular techniques, including PCR, DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis and genome editing, equipping me with the skills necessary to conduct cutting-edge research in the field. I have built on my ability to critically evaluate scientific literature, design experiments, troubleshoot technical challenges and formulate innovative solutions to complex problems in molecular microbiology, preparing me for diverse roles in academia, research and industry.

What are your ambitions for the future and how do you think your time at Strathclyde will help you achieve your goals?

Having some years of professional exposure, my ambition is to become an expert in food and clinical microbiological testing and contribute to ensuring food, and health safety standards. My time at Strathclyde has equipped me with specialised knowledge in molecular microbiology, advanced laboratory techniques and an understanding of regulatory norms along with the wide scope of untouched research and development in disease prevention and control. This foundation will enable me to conduct rigorous research and develop innovative testing methods to enhance food safety practices and standards in the region.

How have you found your time living in Glasgow and what's your favourite thing about the city?

Living in Glasgow has been an enriching experience filled with vibrant culture, friendly locals and a strong sense of community. My favourite thing about the city is its dynamic arts scene, with world-class museums, galleries, markets and live music venues that never fail to inspire and entertain.

Has anything surprised you about living/studying here?

Yes, I've been pleasantly surprised by the warmth and friendliness of the people in Glasgow. Despite the city atmosphere, there's a strong sense of community and a willingness to help one another that has made my experience of living and studying here truly memorable. Glasgow is a safe city, and it is so rightly said, People make Glasgow.
