The National Student Survey (NSS) is your opportunity to reflect on your higher education experience and share your thoughts on everything from teaching quality and learning resources to facilities, equipment, and the student voice.
Your feedback matters. By taking part, you can help your university or college make meaningful improvements that will benefit future students.
As an official UK-wide survey, the NSS also helps prospective students make informed decisions about where and what to study. Results are published through Discover Uni, allowing future applicants to see what current students think about their courses.
The survey is completely anonymous, meaning your university or college will not see your individual responses. This allows you to provide open and honest feedback with confidence.

What is the National Student Survey (NSS)?
The NSS is a nationally recognised annual survey of final-year undergraduate students across the UK. Since its launch in 2005, it has provided valuable insights that help universities, colleges, and students' unions identify strengths, address areas for improvement, and enhance the overall student experience.
The survey gives students a powerful platform to influence the future development of their courses while also providing useful information for those considering higher education.
Eligible students, most of whom are nearing the end of their studies, are invited to answer a series of questions covering different aspects of their course and overall educational experience.
Why should I complete the NSS?
Only you and your fellow students truly understand what it has been like to study on your course. The NSS has been designed to capture student perspectives on the issues that matter most, ensuring your voice is heard.
Your feedback can help your university or college make real improvements to the student experience, benefiting both current and future students.
By completing the survey, you will also help prospective students learn more about your course. NSS results are publicly available through Discover Uni, where future students can compare feedback from different courses and institutions before making their study choices.
How long does it take to complete the NSS?
The NSS takes around 10 minutes to complete.
Some universities and colleges may choose to include additional optional questions alongside the NSS. While you are welcome to answer these, completing them is entirely your choice.
