Design, Manufacturing & Engineering ManagementPierre Toccanier: what I do in my spare time

Hello future Glaswegians!

Here are a few of the things that I did in my spare time when I was in Glasgow.

Goosebumps at Murrayfield

Firstly, one of the reasons why I wanted to come to Scotland was to play rugby with Scottish people, as I like their playing style and wanted to compare it to the French one. I was able to train a little bit with the Strathclyde team and managed to join in with a few of their training sessions. The University offers the possibility to do any sport you want!

Regarding rugby, I went to watch a game at Murrayfield and it was definitely one of the best atmospheres I ever encountered while going to a game. Hearing 'Flower of Scotland' in the heart of Scottish rugby gives more than goosebumps. In terms of sport, I also subscribed to the University’s Gym for an amazingly low price considering the great facility and modern machines that it featured.

Many places to visit

I managed to spend a good number of weekends visiting nearby places with a group of friends from University. Many interesting and beautiful places are quickly reachable by train. Loch Lomond (definitely one of the most gorgeous lochs in Scotland) is just 30 minutes away from Glasgow!

I also visited many cool Scottish castles situated in different villages such as Linlithgow and Stirling.

The village of New Lanark, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, was also a very interesting and uncommon place to see.

I went to Edinburgh a great number of times and always enjoyed the city! There are many things to visit in this town, from museums to castles! The National Museum of Scotland is a must-see and features innovative and interactive ways to learn new things. Edinburgh is really beautiful and has kept a nice traditional atmosphere.

I would recommend that you take advantage of the quite calm beginning of the year in terms of university work to visit many places and discover this beautiful country! I also went a little bit further in the north and will tell you about it in my next blog!
