Royal Commission Fellowship Award for EngD student

Adam Polak, a joint Engineering Doctorate (EngD) student between the Centre for Signal & Image Processing and The Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics, has been awarded the prestigious Fellowship from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851.

Adam is undertaking one of ten awarded promising doctoral projects with the potential to make a significant impact on health, environment and industry that will now be taken towards commercialisation, thanks to funding and support by the 1851 Royal Commission.

His interdisciplinary project exploits recent developments in mid-infrared laser technology. He will develop imaging technology for identifying hazardous molecules and compounds. Its applications include detecting gas leaks, spotting explosives or chemical weapons, and investigating art fraud.
