Young WEIR-WISE: Discovering Engineering with S2 GirlsApplication process
Our 2025 Programme
In collaboration with the Weir Group, we are delighted to be offering the Young WEIR-WISE programme again in January 2025 for female school pupils in S2.
300 girls will be selected to attend either the two-day, on-campus sessions or the online session.
100 girls will be selected to attend in-person from 13-14 January 2025 and a second group of 100 girls from 16-17 January 2025.
A third group of 100 girls will be invited to join an online session on 22 January 2025.
Participants will spend two days on the University of Strathclyde campus or join our online event and will hear from staff at the University and colleagues from the Weir Group who will provide an insight into studying and working in the field of engineering. They will also take part in practical activities run by University of Strathclyde staff and engineers.
The programme is fully-funded by the Weir Group and all student costs, including a contribution towards travel, will be covered. The programme is non-residential and therefore pupils should be able to make their way each day to the Strathclyde University Campus in the heart of Glasgow City Centre if they are attending an on-campus session. Teachers are not required to accompany pupils. For the pupils’ convenience, we will arrange for Mentors to accompany pupils from and to the main transport hubs in Glasgow at the start and end of each day.
For the online session, pupils will be sent a kit in advance which will contain materials they will use to take part in practical activities which staff from the University will talk them through during the online MS Teams call. Pupils can participate from school or home.
Application Process
- Pupils should apply using our online application form which will be available at this webpage from Wednesday 18 September 2024 when applications open.
- Please see below for a list of key dates relating to application deadline etc.
- In the application form, pupils will be asked to indicate whether they would like to attend one of the on-campus sessions or if they would prefer to only be considered for the online session. If they would be happy to attend either offering, they can also indicate this on the application.
- Pupils are also asked to supply the name and contact details for a teacher who can provide a statement in support of their application. Teachers will receive an automated email which will include a designated link to the online application in order to submit their statement.
