We are happy to support the Strathclyde Doctoral Training Centre in Social Dimensions of Plastics to help advance understanding of reusable packaging systems and strategies to reduce plastic waste and microplastic pollution. As a pioneer in circular economy solutions I believe that combining academic excellence with commercial implementation will help generate research that delivers meaningful environmental, economic and societal impact.

Strathclyde Doctoral Training Centre in Social Dimensions of Plastics creates an inspiring space where diverse disciplines genuinely intersect. The supportive mentorship and collaborative environment have pushed me to expand my methodology and explore complex environmental debates around plastics from many fresh perspectives. It is a place that continually encourages you to look, to try and to practice, beyond traditional plastic environment’s issue boundaries.

I feel very fortunate to be a member of the SDTC Social Dimensions of Plastics. The training centre has a focus on real-world societal issues and this has helped me bridge the gap between academic research and application.It has provided invaluable networking opportunities linking us with key industry partners, a collaborative peer network and  exceptional supervisors who are leading figures in cutting edge plastic research and complex social change.

Undertaking my doctoral research in this interdisciplinary environment has significantly advanced my skills and capabilities in all areas.

Being part of the Strathclyde Doctoral Training Centre in SCDT has given me the opportunity to explore how media and storytelling can engage children and young people with plastic pollution. I have particularly valued the interdisciplinary nature of the programme and the opportunity to connect academic research with real-world environmental challenges. I have also really appreciated the welcoming and supportive environment at Strathclyde, especially the encouragement and thoughtful guidance I have received from my supervisors throughout my PhD journey.
