Tell us a bit about your background (education, home city etc)
I am from Lahore, Pakistan. Lahore is the second largest metropolitan city of Pakistan mainly famous for its Mughal architectural history, distinctive culture, delicious food and educational institutions. I completed my bachelor’s degree at University of The Punjab, Lahore. It’s one of the respected universities of Pakistan.
What inspired you to continue in higher education?
I want to be the best in the field of media and the Masters in Media and Communication from the University of Strathclyde will give me the knowledge and expertise to achieve this.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Strathclyde?
The University of Strathclyde is ranked top in the field of Media and Communication in the Complete University Guide League Table 2019 and, the university offered me a generous scholarship. I carried out some research before accepting the offer and found that this university has a great reputation in the market and they have the best academic staff. I have never thought in my wildest dreams that one day I would be studying in one of the most prestigious universities in the UK.
Did you seek any support during the application process?
No, I filled my application form on my own. I found no difficulty filling it. Actually it’s quite easy.
What has been the highlight of your time at Strathclyde so far?
Scottish people are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Before coming to UK, I was quite anxious of how my lecturers and class fellows would interact with me but I was overwhelmed with the kind of support I am getting from them. I think I have the best teachers and I am very happy with this. Strathclyde University has an extremely active student union. They arrange a variety of events for students so they can take some time off from thehectic study schedule. They arrange special dinners, concerts, comedy shows and plenty of other activities for the students. These are some highpoints of my #Strathjourney so far.
What would be your advice for people considering taking the course at Strathclyde?
I would encourage them to apply here. The university offers plenty of courses and have the best qualified academic staff. The course can be quite difficult but this is to be expected at masters level. Additionally, my course offers plenty of extra informal current affairs discussion sessions such as the Media Comm Jam which is very interesting and fun to attend.
What have been your main challenges at university, and how did you overcome them?
My main challenge has been the academic essay writing. The university offers extra English courses that full time student can apply to for free. These sessions were really beneficial.
What do you think of the support available during your course?
The University of Strathclyde have friendliest and most cooperative staff. Student business, the Union… everything is really good. My professor has provided me with a lot of support whenever I’ve been stuck in my studies.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I want to be a successful and skilful media TV show producer and I will, one day. I know things will take time but this degree will help me to achieve my goal and after that ‘the sky is the limit’.
Do you have any other thoughts or advice that you would like to share on your course?
This course is very interesting and theoretical. If you are the type of person who likes to know about media and communication theories and want to expand their knowledge in the field of strategic communication then this is the perfect course for you. My genuine advice to every fellow is believe in yourself and dream big, nothing can stop you apart from your own self.
