Faculty Celebrates Strong Performance in UK University Rankings 

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Strathclyde has performed exceptionally well in the last year and as a result, we are celebrating the significant improvements we have made in terms of where we are ranked according to The Complete University Guide, The Guardian and The Sunday Times Good University Guide's ranking list for 2019.

We are particularly proud to be considered Number 1 in the country for Journalism (Media and Communication) and Social Policy.

Complete University Guide 2019

The Complete University Guide is a comprehensive ranking of over 140 UK universities in one main table and in 70 subject tables. The University of Strathclyde is up 5 places from 45th to 40th. We feature in the top 40 for each subject group. 

We are now number 1 in the UK for Journalism and Social Policy. History has increased 2 places and Spanish (Iberian Languages) has increased by 16 places to 30th. French has also seen an increase of 9 places now ranked at 39 and Social Work has moved 5 places to 12th. Politics has increased by an impressive 17 places to 27th.

The Guardian 2019

The Guardian ranks UK universities by carefully combining scores for the aspects of university life that matter most to students. 

We have seen impressive increases in many subject areas including Politics which is up 2 places to 37, Modern Languages which is up 4 places to 55th and Law which is now ranked 43rd according to this list. The school of Social Work and Social Policy are delighted with their increase in rankings with Social Work moving 11 places up to 17th and Social Policy now considered 2nd best in the whole of the UK.

The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide  

The Sunday Times Good University Guide has also ranked some of the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences' subjects higher this year than they did last year. These include History which is up 8 places from 40-32 and Law which has been ranked 16th. Languages have also seen a huge improvement with Spanish (Iberian Languages) moving 12 places to be ranked 13th and French moving 32 places from 41st to 9th in the whole of the UK. Social Work and Social Policy have again been ranked highly with Social Work ranking 7th and Social Policy is now in 1st place. 

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will aim to maintain and improve these rankings in the next academic year.
