LGBTQI+ at StrathclydeOur activity

Here you can find out about our LGBTQI+ inclusion activity at Strathclyde, including the LGBT Charter and our Working Group.

The LGBT Charter for organisations is a programme run by LGBT Youth Scotland that enables organisations to proactively include LGBTQI+ people in every aspect of their work, supporting their staff and providing a high-quality service to all service users.

Our Student Experience Directorate currently holds a Silver-level LGBT Charter Mark and are working towards our Gold submission in September 2025.

Strath Union, the Students' Union, also holds an LGBT Charter at Bronze level.

This central online hub was developed by the University’s LGBTQI+ Working Group to provide visibility, celebration and information for LGBTQI+ applicants, students and staff at Strathclyde, and to raise awareness and foster good relations among the wider University community and our partners. The Working Group is a collaboration between the University and Strath Union, and is Chaired by Professor Ian Rivers (Executive Dean HaSS and Associate Principal) and managed by the Equality & Diversity Office.

The Working Group collaborated throughout academic years 2022/23 and 2023/24 to develop this online resource, and accompanying activity and events.

The Ask Alex service for trans, non-binary and gender diverse students and staff connects named contacts working across the University who can provide advice, assistance and support in a range of areas. The named contacts act as a friendly first port-of-call who can coordinate support or find out information on your behalf.
