Supporting Students from Armed Forces Families

The University of Strathclyde is proud to support students of the Armed Forces.  We have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and honour to support the Armed Forces Community including service personnel and their families.

We will support students with armed forces connections on their educational journey through means of tailored support and guidance on entry to higher education.  We can offer advice on completing the UCAS Application and Personal Statement and supporting you through your transition to university.

We offer a host of visiting opportunities and you can find all the information on our Visiting Opportunities page.

There are various funding opportunities for students from an armed forces background.  Please find below further information :

Please note that we can only support students from armed forces and veteran families.
We can support young people who meet the following criteria:

• Between the ages of 16-25 who have enrolled in college or university.
• Enrolled in an entry to undergraduate degree level of study.
• From Scottish serving or veteran families residing within the UK.
• From non-Scottish serving or veteran families residing in Scotland.

For further information please visit the Forces Children Scotland website.

Armed Forces Children’s Education Trust exists to assist in funding the education of dependants of Servicemen and women, both currently serving and retired. Grants are available to those up to the age of 25.

There must be a link between Service disadvantage and the need for support for university costs for us to consider a grant for this purpose. We would only consider an application for fees for tertiary education where a loan is not available. In such cases, we may consider a grant for years 2 and 3. This allows us to ensure that you are committed to your studies by passing successfully through your first year at university.

In some circumstances, the Trust may support accommodation-related charges where a maintenance grant is not available or insufficient, but this will be on a means-tested basis and, again, must be related to disadvantage due to the parent’s military service.

Further information can be found on the Armed Forces Children's Education Trust website.
